tip week 42/2016:

Recently one of my colleagues asked me if I knew about the use of an &-character in front of an EDIT command. I could not remember if I did. Again one of those small pecularitites in the ISPF editor which you almost accidentially stumble across.

By putting an &-character in front of your EDIT command the editor will redisplay the command instead of the normal behaviour of wiping it out. Then you are instantly ready to perform the command again by pressing Enter without having to use the retrieve key or the RETP command. This saves some keystrokes and makes it even easier to use the ISPF editor. If you occasionally use UNDO then it is very handy to write &UNDO as command instead or else you end up keying in UNDO several times.
